When it comes to Microsoft operating systems, the choices can be confusing. The main options are Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows 365. When it comes to choosing which one is right for you and your care home we hope this quick breakdown will help you decide.

Windows 10

The oldest of the options, Windows 10 was released in 2015 and will be supported by Microsoft until 2025. You will pretty much be governed by your hardware as to whether Windows 10 is the only option (if you want to run Windows locally and not in the Cloud) as Microsoft have said that if your chips are not on these lists, you will not be able to run Windows 11. This means if you are wanting to run Windows locally and not in the cloud, you only have one option.

Although Windows 10 will now not receive any new features or significant updates, you may also like the fact that it will remain nearly the same until it reaches its end of support timeline.

Windows 11

If you want to run your desktop operating system locally and have relatively modern hardware with one of the magic chips listed above, then Windows 11 could be the best option for you.

Newly released, Windows 11 will be supported until at least 2031 and should provide you with more security, better performance and an improved user interface.

Windows 365

If you’re a business user i.e. using it within your care home, and want to modernise things, then it may be worth looking into Windows 365. The key difference is that Windows 365 runs in the cloud and is streamed to your device.

This means that you ran run it on an iPad, Android phone – basically anything that connects to the Internet. But remember it is not a traditional desktop operating system and can only be accessed via your browser. So if you are not able to connect to the Internet or if you’re a consumer, Windows 365 is not for you.

You pay Microsoft a monthly fee to access the virtual desktop but with that you get automatic updates and your data is secured in the cloud.
