Now more than ever, your care home communications are critical. But things are changing in the world of telecoms, and your existing telephony solution might become obsolete soon.
What’s happening and which care homes will be affected?
BT Openreach has announced it intends to switch off traditional landlines in 2025, more commonly referred to as the Public Switch Telephone Network (PSTN) and Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) switch-off.
The BT 2025 switch-off will impact all care homes and groups currently operating ISDN or PSTN.
The switch-off will affect a large volume of care homes, as many smaller care homes are less reliant on more advanced and diverse communication platforms than larger groups, meaning they haven’t needed to upgrade their systems.
What’s the alternative?
Voice over the internet (VoIP) services uses your internet connection to transmit voice calls and is a much better alternative to traditional landlines.
Why is VoIP better?
Scalable – It grows with your care homes and adjusts to your needs.
Flexible – It doesn’t tie you to a physical location.
Cost-effective – There are no initial and ongoing maintenance costs.
Future-proof – It won’t become obsolete for a long time.
