BT’s Public Switch Telephone Network (PSTN) will be switched off in December 2025. All copper based PSTN (or ISDN) lines will stop working after this date. To ensure uninterrupted service, every phone line and copper-based broadband must transit to a fibre-based broadband connection using Internet Protocol (IP).
Care homes who have not yet moved their telephony to a voice-over IP (VoIP) service will need to give themselves plenty of time to switch over.
We want to make sure you’re ready for the changes. Some services relying on PSTN – such as CCTV, alarms, fax machines and lifts – may also be impacted.
Stop Sell on copper-based services from September 2023
Care homes will no longer be able to order or add additions to existing copper-based services and BT Openreach has issued a complete Stop Sell on new PSTN and ISDN-based voice services, as well as most copper-based broadband, from September.
