The latest census has revealed some interesting data. The population has grown by more than 3.5 million (6.3%) in 10 years. But the more interesting statistic is more people are aged 65 and over than ever before.
The over 65’s represent 21.3% in Wales, compared to 18.4% in England. East Devon has the most people aged 90 and over – the equivalent of 1.9% of the population. The English regions with the most over 65s are North Norfolk and Rother in East Sussex (33.4% and 32.4% of the population).
It is also good to look at areas with the over 65 population growing. There is a trend to move to a place that is nice to retire, but it can put demands on local authorities who need to plan for future social care services.
At GHM Care, we know that the next generation needing care will be more tech-savvy than the previous. It will be vital that care homes have comprehensive WiFi because getting by with a limited signal won’t cut it. Not forgetting staff requirements, the digital revolution is transforming how care teams work, ensuring residents have access to better response times and more effective care.
