A timeline of Care Home technology

Many of us have experienced quite a technology revolution during our working lives. Some may even remember working pre-internet. Whichever decade we started in, we can all agree that technology moves pretty quickly. Check out the image below to see which PCs you remember using!

How do Care Homes fit into the technology revolution?

Since the pandemic, it has never been more vital to ensure care homes are equipped with the right technology to improve resident care and support team members.

Smartphones

Can you believe it has been more than a decade since they launched? Once considered a luxury item but now considered a necessity, it wasn’t actually that long ago that they were introduced in care homes. Carers and nurses can now receive alerts on their smartphones, view rosters, and make and receive calls around the home, all contributing to improving the resident care and experience.

Microsoft

Do your administration and management teams have the right tools to do their job? Did you know Microsoft offer a range of licences specifically for care homes? The available tools connect teams by improving productivity and engagement for staff members. They can also cut costs and automate tasks.

What will the future bring?

Implementing new technology is wonderful. But staff and residents need to see and feel the benefits.

In 5 – 10 years, we can’t say exactly what the timeline will look like but there’s sure to be plenty more change. We should see more artificial intelligence (AI) being introduced, especially monitoring care, and predicting early intervention, taking the pressure off carers and families.
