Learnings from the best care setting in the world – The Netherlands

Dutch care homes, particularly specialised dementia facilities like ‘Hogeweyk’, are widely considered among the best in the world because they prioritise person-centered care, independence, and “normalisation” of life over clinical, institutional environments. The Dutch model focuses on providing a familiar, home-like environment that allows residents to maintain their previous lifestyles, social connections, and dignity.

Earlier this month, Edward Parker from GHM Care was fortunate enough to join partners Adaptive Care on an educational tour of the Netherlands to experience firsthand the cutting-edge technology that makes The Netherlands so exmplary and how other countries have already implemented these into their homes.

The tour comprised an extensive visit to The Hogeweyk Dementia Village and a visit to CLB to see the future of Acoustic Monitoring.

Edward says: “This was a fantastic opportunity to see first hand, not just some of the most advanced technologies in the care home industry, but a completely different culture and approach to residential care.”
