Resident Handset FAQs

Where can I find pricing and sign up for a phone?

Simply visit the GHM Care webstore at: https://webstore.residentphones.ghmcare.co.uk

Can I use my existing phone number?

Yes, providing the telephone number can be ported (we will check for you) and payment of a small admin fee. You can request your existing number when placing your order.

Do I need a telephone socket in my room?

No. Our resident phone uses the WiFi signal in the home to connect calls. The handset will only need a power socket.

How will the bill be sent out?

The monthly bill (inc. initial set up fees) will be emailed to the account holder, using the contact details provided at order and all payments have to be made via Direct Debit.

How do I manage my account?

Changes, including cancellation of service, can be made via the online portal at https://webstore.residentphones.ghmcare.co.uk

Will I be charged for calls?

Good news! All calls to UK landline numbers (01,02 & 03) and calls to UK mobiles (most 07 numbers) are free. Calls are also free to these countries: USA, Canada, Australia and Ireland (subject to a fair usage policy of 2000/200 mins per month)

Is the phone hearing aid compatible?

Yes.  Our Big Button phone is hearing aid compatible.

Do residents currently using analogue landlines have to arrange for this new service?

Residents do not have to switch service right away, but by January 2027, any analogue lines still in use will be switched off. Residents that may be affected the Big Switch Off can of course switch over to our service any time before this date. (Note: It is no longer possible to order new analogue lines, so the GHM resident service is an ideal alternative).

Will my contract be with the care home or GHM?

Your contract will be directly with GHM, who are on hand to assist with any billing, service or account related queries.

Can we use another handset?

No, the technology in our handset is designed so that it connects using WiFi. There is no cable connection, other than a power cable.

Is it possible to restrict outgoing calls?

Yes, you can request that the handset can only receive incoming calls.
